Perimeter: the outer edge of an area of land or the border around it.
St. Petersburg, Russia, like the majority of megapolises around the world, has to face housing issues for its growing population. Building construction doesn’t meet the demand. However, a quick trip in the outermost suburbs of the city is enough to observe how fast the urban area is stretching out, at the cost of a forest or a fallow land. At the place where, a decade ago, I could admire the Baltic Sea, the western Bypass is now snaking and across of it, an artificial peninsula has been built. What defined the boundary in the old times has long ago been integrated to the heart of the city. This project called “Perimeter” is not strictly documentary but it is my way to interpellate my contemporaries and to define the problem of general growth and its limits. How far can the envelope being pushed?
